The Yazdani Studio was retained by the Museum of Tolerance to develop a program, conceptual design and construction cost model for an expansion and remodel to the Museum in Los Angeles, California. The scope of work includes a remodel of the Wosk Screening room to provide improved seating and acoustics. The theater will be renovated with new finishes, architectural lighting and seating to improve the audience experience. Additionally the existing Volunteer office/lounge and Security office will be updated with new finishes. The public & exhibit spaces on this level will be demolished and new interactive center and learning spaces for children will be added. Additionally, the circulation through the lobby, bookstore, ticketing and theater entrance on the first level, and circulation on the mezzanine level will be reconfigured.

The expansion will include a new cultural center, alterations to the main pedestrian entry and exterior façade of the existing Museum, and remodel of the First Level lobby/bookstore/ticketing and theater entry areas. The Museum’s goal is to revise and update several aspects about the existing facility to improve visibility, way-finding and security for the first and mezzanine levels, and provide new space that will serve as a new Cultural Center.

This scope includes the addition of 13,500 square feet of space to be located in the existing Memorial Garden and connect to the existing Museum on the Ground and Second Levels. This new space will accommodate space for informal gathering, temporary exhibits, new bookstore, new café and multipurpose rooms. A new roof garden that connects to the existing Third Level is also proposed for the Addition.
